Iraq to Join 36th TIBF with 30-Strong Delegation

"Iraq will be represented with more than 15 publishers and a 30-strong delegation. The Iraqi Minister of Culture will be present at the opening ceremony of the TIBF," he was quoted as saying by Mehr.

As stated by Thaer Jaafar Al-Asami, Deputy Head of the National Publishers Association of Iraq: "This participation is a source of pride for our country. We are confident that our presence at this fair will strengthen cultural interaction and relations between the two nations."

Out of 15 Iraqi publishing houses scheduled to take part in the TIBF. Of these, one is a publisher allied with the Iraqi Council of Ministers, while the remaining 14 are members of the Iraqi Publishers Association," he further said.

Referring to the domestic and foreign parts of the book fair, Heidari added, "2,363 Iranian publishers have signed up for the fair, 1,589 of them publishers based in Tehran and 774 publishers of other provinces. In addition, 50 foreign applicants have signed up. Their books will be showcased in the Arabic and Latin parts of the exhibition, which have been published between 2023 and 2025."

This year, we have established a new and unique initiative named Tehran Publishing Fellowship Program with a view to assist Iranian productions and ease their translation into other languages. 81 publishers from 34 countries registered for the first program edition and 64 Iranian publishers registered for fellowship.

The foreign publishers are from nations such as Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Brazil, China, Egypt, Hungary, India, Iraq, Italy, Malaysia, Russia, Spain, Syria, and Turkey among others.

The fellowship seeks to increase Iran's presence in the international publishing scene, starting with children's and young adult literature.

The phrase 'publishing fellowship' is used to describe the cooperation between publishers, authors, and literary agents for book rights sales.

Heidari also emphasized the attendance of foreign guests and added: "Thirty foreign writers will visit the fair from all over the world. We wish that our interaction with these guests of honor will follow the Book Fair as well."

Being a national heritage and event, Tehran International Book Fair not only revitalizes and enriches the nation's culture but also garners the attention of cultural icons and book enthusiasts from around the world.

The cultural event has become a landmark, historic book fair in West Asia after 35 consecutive editions. Millions of people visit the fair annually, among them thousands of university students, researchers, and their families.

It now happens to be Iran's major cultural event. Foreign publishers make considerable content of theirs available in English or Arabic but include options like French, German, Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Japanese titles too.

The 36th TIBF will be held between May 7 and 17 at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Mosalla. "Let's Read for Iran" has been selected as the motto of the forthcoming edition of the book fair.
